Hello Ebi! Hello Fam!
On Netflix, there is this awesome series called Soundtrack. The actors perform something similar to Karaoke – each singing and dancing their way through songs that fit individual situations in their lives. It made me wonder if I was asked to create a soundtrack for my MC Amachi, what songs would I use? Here’s are six songs that would be a great fit.
Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
Amachi is plagued by visions. As a seer, sleep is a commodity since her premonitions happen nightly. Aside from the visions she has for her kin, there is one that’s on a constant loop. It portends a dark future for her people. Amachi would love nothing better than to be free of these visions – a night of sweet dreams. But without her dreams, her kin will walk blindly into tragedy.
Amachi loses her iye, mother at age six. The day of her death is traumatizing and haunts Amachi even as an adult. But her mother’s sacrifice put Amachi on the path to her destiny.
Evanescence – My Immortal
Amachi is an immortal. The excitement of immortality eventually turns into discontent, and then sadness. She could never marry or have children. “What point is there in immortality if you must bear witness to the death of your kin?” – Amachi
K’naan – In the Beginning
The weight of responsibility, one where it falls on you to protect your kin, is a heavy one. When I listen to these lyrics, it reminds me of how strong Amachi will have to be as the story moves forward. But like Prof. Dumbledore says, “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Jimmy Cliff -The Harder They Come
Bob Marley – Get Up Stand Up
Later in the story, Amachi and her kin (living and dead) will stand against a foe that means to erase them all from existence. The ultimate ‘jump-off’ so to speak. The two songs above are fitting for what may be Amachi’s final conflict.
And should Amachi embrace victory, here’s a bonus track 😊
LunchMoney Lewis feat. Aminé – It’s Gonna Be a Lovely Day (disregard the sour look on the cat’s face LOL!)
Have you ever thought of putting together your own soundtrack? One that tells the story of your MC’s journey? I would love to hear about it!
Thanks for visiting, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you in 2020! I invite you to comment and share!
Ibukun! (Blessings) and Happy New Year!
